I was uning my Jinam 284. I changed it from 4wd to 2wd. Everything was working properly. Now I can't get it to go into 2wd or 4wd. Any ideas on what I can do to get it in gear?

Presumably yours is the cable shifter. From the 2wd/4wd select lever, follow the cable to where it goes into the side of the mid-connect housing. The cable is connected to a piece of cast steel that fits over a shaft that disappears into the housing. You've likely broken the roll pin that afixes that piece of steel to the shaft. Have someone move the 2wd/4wd select lever back and forth while you watch that fitting. If it moves back and forth, but the shaft doesn't - drive out the old roll pin and replace it with new. If it's working properly, follow the cable backwards and see if it's loose at the lever end.

If it's a broken roll pin, you can ensure longer life of your repair if you double pin it. That is, get a pin of the correct size for the holes, then a 2nd pin that fits snugly inside the 1st pin. Nest the pins together before insertion, then tap them in as a pair.

You are trying to shift it when rolling and when on soft loose ground right? If the pawls are not lined up, it won't go in untill they are lined up. You need to be rolling in order to get them to line up. I just hold a gentle upward pressure on the lever while rolling till it slips in.

If in 4wd and on solid ground(bad for drivetrain) it may be bound up. Drive it onto soft ground, and hold pressure down on the lever while rolling and it should slip out of 4wd once the strain is off...

If that dosn't work, and this is a creeper transmission, the 4WD mechanism is in the rear of the creeper case and you can get to it easy with 8 bolts on top to see if anything is interfering with the action.
