My oil pressure gage has always read high (pinned) with engine running. I just found an oil pressure adjustment located on the oil filter housing and instructions in the manual. Instructions are not complete.
The adjustment lock nut was loose. I turned the adjustment in (clock wise) 4 turns but saw no change in the pressure gage. I'm afraid to starve the engine of oil.
Should changing the adjustment show on the oil gage? Will turning it clock wise lower the pressure?

There is some info in this post: HERE

You may want to use a US mechanical oil pressure gauge to verify the pressure.

I think it is best to get a mechanical gage, if only to temporarily install to check the adjustment. when your engine is warm at idle does the gage show a drop in pressure? if not, the sending unit (or guage) may be bad or the wiring may be wrong.

I absolutely agree. A mechanical gauge is the way to go. No electric involved, just a plain mechanical gauge. It does require some tubing run to it but its as foolproof as you can get. When and if mine goes or becomes questionable this is the way I'll go.

Off topic, but when I went to a high output alternator I did away with the amp gauge as it couldn't handle the amperage above 30 amps. I added a direct reading voltmeter under the dash. Its simple and it works.

You can get a mechanical gauge with tubing and fitting at NAPA for about $ 25.00

Gage never moves. I'll have to get a mech gage.

I'm inclined to believe your problem is in the wiring, most likely a maladjusted or shorted sending unit. To check, loosen the lock nut behind the OPSU. Turn the key switch to RUN (but don't start). Rotate the OPSU (counterclockwise I think) while watching for the needle to move on the oil pressure gauge. If you can get it to move this way, continue to rotate till the needle hits zero. Tighten down the lock nut. If this doesn't work, a new OPSU is about five bucks.

But a mechanical gauge is superior anyway. Just depends on where/how you want to spend your time and money.

my oil press gaugte worked just fine but I had one of the 9 buck 3 gauge kits from box lots/ odd lots store I bought and had for a car, I put the oil press gauge in as that factory one was way poor design. also to check the factory one I belive you acn ground the sending unit and the gauge should read full press and when open the gauge should go full the other way. (may have that backwards? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ) anyhow let a 2nd voice chime in on that one. also it is wise to run a 2nd or 3rd grounding wire from the colume to the fule tank sending unit mount and to the engine this ties all the gauges in to the ground system which seems to be the big down fault of the jinma wiring (pour ground connections)
