I bought one of these tractors for my ranch in Arizona. The owners manuals are great for getting parts, but just plain "unusual" for figuring out basic things like maintenance. It is almost laughable - talks about "getting clean river water" to put in the radiator.

Anyways - anyone got some basic pictures or diagrams on how to maintenance on this critter or similar tractor?

Sincerely,

Very important to use clean river water, don't use stagnant swamp water! It also says to drian the block and engine nightly and open throttle before working.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I use rain water from a barrel, I find if I use river water I get soap in the rad from my wife beating soapy clothes on the rocks and I don't like bait fish nipping at my toes.
Coffee before working is my routine /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Start Here

That's a link to my service article. (Your filters will be different, but most of it is the same)

I did my oil change for my new Jinma 284. I changed it at 20 hours. The drain plug was on the engine lower bottom block ( to take advantage of gravity). I turned the plug with a conventional wrench and then refilled the oil at the top with the red 1 inch plug in the engine top attached to the clear plastic tubing. Is there a way to attach a picture on this forum? Next it's on to the hydralic fluid.

One question though - does anyone think I should have changed the oil filter too?

Yes.
Hopefully, your oil filter would catch any debris, metal shavings, (broken gear teeth, fragments of broken valves or rings, LOL <BG>) that you don't want circulating around the system. It's cheap insurance for sure.
