Hi,

Found a few old posts about converting to a non-OE starter since the ones they come with are such crap. I found two references, one to a Wisconsin Starter and one post where someone indicated he had converted to a Ford starter.

AM I wasting my time or is this possible?

Thanks,

Darwin

Never heard of a Ford starter on a Jinma, I believe you must have that confused with upgrading the OE starter switch to a Ford cold start switch. And the "Wisconsin starter" is in fact the reduction gear starter sold by JMParts up in Wisconsin.

Reduction gear starters are nice, I own one one of the Wisconsin type. But it's important to note that I don't have it on the tractor anymore (it's sitting on my spare parts shelf). Three years ago I installed a reduction gear starter on my TS354C, while the OE starter (a QD100C3) was getting a $65 rebuild in an auto-electric shop. When it came outa the shop, I decided to test out the rebuilt starter (back on the tractor). It worked better than new, so I just left it on. The shiny new reduction gear starter has been gathering dust ever since

I think you are wasting your time. Get a reduction stater and be happy. I have had one for about 4 years and its been great.
