Does anyone have a ballpark figure on how many Jinmas are in the United States at this time? Just curious as to how many parts are available and if a used parts network will be cropping up in the future. What do you feel the EPA laws will do to the future of importing Jinmas? Mine will be delivered on Monday, I can hardly wait.

Thanks,
Bill Williams

Don't have a clue about future issues,,,,BUT,,, we are not about to go to war with china,,,in the next hundred years,,unless they attack us,,,nixon started the big friendship with china in early 70's and we have ceased being an enemy,,just a wary watcher of each other,,they are helping with north korea now... EPA issues,,,bull,,,if that was really going to affect trade relations in some way,,,you would have already heard it on fox news,,,,only place I have heard of it is here,,,don't pay much attention to what you hear on these boards,,,learned that over two years ago,,,,,you can still order a brand new one off of northern or other places,,if something serious was happening,,,you would not be able to,,,,,rumors started by,,,wonder who??? big three people????thingy

As Richard says, there have been lots of rumors. The big developement over the last few months is that EPA no longer can accept 1999 and 1998 engines in new tractors as an exemption to the EPA requirements on non-road diesel engines that were passed in 1998. What this means is that unless the rumor that Yangdong (engine manufacturer for many Chinese brands) and Homier (Farm Pro) are gaining EPA certification on (at least some) Yangdong engines is true, or unless other exemptions are obtained, the larger importers could get forced out of the picture or be limited to 200 tractors a year. I think that Homier sells at least twice that amount every month.
EPA's TPEM exemption program, which limits each importer acting in the role of OEM to 200 non compliant engines per year has only two more years before it expires, under that program 2005 is the last year to import 25HP up to 50HP and 2006 is the last for up to 25HP (50HP and over has already expired).

So at least the smaller importers will be in tractors for awhile and with any luck, an EPA certified engine will become available before the program expires.

If I had to guess, I would estimate that there are as many as 20,000 or more Chinese tractors in the USA now. That is a enough to make it economically feasable for a few small companies to speciallize in parts.

To that end, several of us dealers are building our parts business as an additional profit center and a hedge against possible future restriction on tractor imports. AS a result there are parts scattered all over the USA and smart dealers are packing as many parts with each shipment of tractors they are receiving. There will not be any problem to continue importing parts (with the possible exception of complete engines). Also, as these tractors age and some are junked, there should be a good availability of used parts. There have been sucessful business specializing in parts for other orphan brands like Oliver and Belarus, etc.

Lots of words here just to say that the future parts availability looks good. Relax and enjoy your tractor!

So there are restrictions in the future and not just rumors as suggested?

Inspector,,,never did tell me what kind of an inspector,,even though I told you I was a certified welding inspector and a certified level III nondestructive testing inspector,,,so what are you????? an inspector 12????? in any case,,to your question,,,,chinese tractors are here to stay,,,,forget about,,epa,,,and any other govenment reg. thing,,,,,once there is a demand,,,than thats it,,,there is a demand for affordable tractors in u.s.,,,the big three or four have gotten to greedy,,,just like ford and chevy did in late 60's and early 70's,,,,,forget about it,,,,,,thingy

I think it may be more accurately stated that there HAVE BEEN restrictions in place for several years now, and that it's simply the EXEMPTIONS to those restrictions that are expiring.
