Hi guys. First post.

I bought a Jinma 284 and Jinma Backhoe last fall. I had hoped to get a fair amount of hours on it before having to decide if I wanted to purchase the extended warranty or not, but with lousy weather I only have a little over 15 hours on it, and the time to decide is near.

I can purchase a 1 year for $400 or a 2 year for $550. I am trying to decide if it would be worth it or not. For those of you that have had your Jinma's for a year or two, how much went wrong in that time? I would still have to pay shipping on parts and the dealer is a good 300+ miles away.

Thanks for any feedback

I would not if the warranty covers only the Jinma Tractor. They are pretty good machines and cheap to fix if they do break. Sounds like the warranty is parts only, you do the wrenching.

Now if you have a Jinma BH I would go for it, the 2 year. The Jinma BH leaves a lot to be desired.

Like Chris says, if it's parts only, and you still have to pay for shipping, you buy a lot of stuff for the price of that warranty, especially if you have to install yourself. Now, if your dealer does the work under the warranty, then it would be worth it. Who is your dealer, where are you located? I'm not familiar with your backhoe, so I can't say if that would be covered as well?
I'm pretty sure most of us who own Chinese tractors do our own wrenching. A lot of the little things that could go wrong we repair ourselves, either with OEM parts or aftermarket parts, or even making our own.

If it is not going to be a warranty that includes labor, such as if a clutch fails or a major engine or gearbox problem, save your money. Parts are not that expensive, and available from several vendors, some that post here. If you have to provide the labor and shipping anyway, like Rob said, you can buy a LOT of parts for $400...

As for me, pushing 250 hours on my 284 now, and only needed a key switch and loader valve "O" rings, both under warranty, in the first few hours of operation. Oh, and I burnt out my first light bulb this week, for which I already have a spare that came with the tractor:)

Good luck

My 284 without BH now has close to 200 hours, --clutch safety switch (mounted too close to tranny), steering hose (mounted too close to loader bracket)-- totaled about 50 bucks(Cdn) after shipping. Fluids, filters etc cost a lot more and are not under warranty. Odds are the dealer does not lose money on the warranty but, like any insurance policy, if you have some catastrophic failure it will make it all seem worthwhile. Tough choice!

If you are conscientious about maintenance - especially preventative maintenance - then save your money. As was stated, you can never predict a catastrophic failure. So that part is a gamble, but in reality a pretty safe one. Be constantly on the lookout for loose nuts/bolts/fittings/belts/leaks/stains. And I cannot stress enough, how important it is to re-torque the head and adjust the valve lash at or before 50 hours. After ~50 break-in hours there's going to be a lot of metal shavings to get rid of, and the cooling system will probably be dirty too. ALL fluids should be replaced - flushing performed as required - filters should be then be replaced - screens should cleaned (or replaced)

If you're not prepared to do all that - then reconsider the extended warranty. But even if it pays for parts, you're still gonna be out the time and/or money it costs to install them.

I've had my 284 for 5 yrs over 300 hrs and had a bunch of failures, usually due to some abuse, so far I haven't spent much over 400 bucks even including all the fluid & flushing maintenance (not including fuel as it's over 4 bucks a gallon now, which is more expensive than the hyd fluid I bought! lol) I have done things like broken 2 hyd cylinders off my back hoe, (welded them up myself) broken off one front wheel while in 4x4 using FEL twisted the FEL smashing into a concrete pier underground.
blown a hyd pump (my bro pressure washed the seal out)

so like others said if it is parts only then probably save you're $

Thanks Guys. Sorry for taking so long to get back on the responses. Been lots going on.

I bought this with my brother, and neither one of us are the type to abuse our machines. We change fluids regularly and do most if not all our own wrenching. We got it mostly for snow removal, and things like spreading gravel or dirt and occasionally digging a hole for something.

On the warranty I am not sure if the Backhoe is included or not. I need to check that. But either way the warranty would only cover parts and not shipping or installing. The dealer is 300+ miles away so shipping could get expensive on heavier parts. Of course I suspect you pay for shipping one way or another no matter if I use a closer dealer for parts or not.

With the responses we have gotten we are leaning towards skipping it if it doesn't include the Backhoe, but maybe going for it if it does.

Thanks again for all the great responses.

BTW check to see if electrical items are covered! I was just told by my selling dealer that electrical is not covered!!!!!!!!!!! Geese aren't these machines noted for their ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS and that what's not cover. JUST does not sound KOSHER to me. . . -Ed
