Hi all,

I was helping a neighbor today.the starter on his jinma 224d quit on him last october.well one thing led to another and we finally got around to working on it today.it has been stored outside behind the barn.we bought and installed a new starter.the engine cranks just fine.it will not fire.i loosened the fuel lines on top of the injector pump thinking there may be air in the lines.there is no air.plenty of fuel comes out.nothing is blocking the intake air.we tried a couple small shots of starting fluid.still would not fire. we drained the tank and put in fresh fuel.the key switch will not engage the starter.we had to use a screwdriver across the two posts on the starter.the lights on the dash do come on with the key as well as the preheater does seem to be working.it draws a lot of power when used.

Any help would be appreciated

Exhaust valve stuck open? Does it have compression release?

I will check the valves.it does blow white smoke with an occasional black puff.

Thanks,
Mike

White smoke when first started is normal, but should turn grey within 10 seconds or so. Occasional puff of black smoke is normal too, assuming it's when you're working the tractor or upon advancing the throttle. It's just unburnt fuel going out the pipe until the governor resolves the fuel demand.

The Chinese keyswitch is a sore spot with many owners, they basically just fall apart internally. But before you write it off, check the clutch interlock switch underneath the left floorboard. It - and its associated wiring - are another weak link.

If you're getting a puff of smoke, combustion is happening to at least some degree. Did you check for fuel delivery at the injectors themselves, or only at the top of the IP? You could have one or more clogged or dirty injectors causing the problem.

With the tractor having sat idle for long, you could have stuck rings decreasing compression, too. When you pull the injectors to check them, squirt a shot of diesel mixed with just a bit of motor oil in each cylinder and let is run down into the rings overnight.

White smoke is raw fuel from incomplete combustion - usually found at very cold start ups with/and engines with low compression, and/or dribbling (stuck) injectors. More prominently on pre-chambered engines.
Black smoke is caused by over-fueling (unburned fuel - not the same as incomplete combustion), which is not unlike lugging, and also not having adequate air to burn a specific amount of fuel. Also see turbo lag.
Judging from your post, you need to get your injectors pop tested, and get the starter solenoid replaced/repaired.

Check the fuel shut off at the injector pump. If its stuck repair. Also check the compression release.

I would also clean the injector pump oil out and fill with diesel fuel crank over for a few seconds as the fuel rail slide (Kill Lever) rusts and sticks in them also so they cant get more than a dribble under pressure. check for fuel cutout as well someone may have shut off the fuel under the tank.

next item would be the Decompression Lever under dash by the steering column left side. make sure it rotates around freely and is not stuck holding the valves in..

Nest thing is to check the air cleaner make sure that no critters didnt clog it up 100% that will also cause a lot of these issues.
