John Deer 185 Hydro
Hello i have a John Deere 185 Hydro, seconded owner, i got from my dad, battery works and Gas is in the the tank. The problem is the gas will not get to the engine matter of fact to the filter (which we bought a new one because we thought it was clogged up..) we also bought a new spark plug cause we thought the engine is not getting power. but the REAL problem is the fuel, thats it, just trying to get the gas through the filter to the engine but it will not even get to the filter..

Please reply if you know what to do..

can't say i know anything about that specific model, but i have a 345 and a 318, so the general principle is the same. i just changed the fuel filter on the 318 because it was running a little erratically, and i have no clue who was president the last time i replaced it. if you can see the carburetor and the fuel filter, follow the line back a little further and you should find a fuel pump. it should be a small aluminum block with three hoses running into it. one line goes to the filter - we'll call that the "out" line. one line should go to the engine - we'll call that the "impulse" line. the last line should go to the fuel tank - we'll call that the "in" line.

i'd start by pulling the "in" line off the pump and seeing if fuel will flow through from the tank. if it doesn't then you may have an obstruction in that line. possibly a cracked line, or plugged line / screen in the tank.

if fuel does flow through that line then you may not be getting it pumped to the carburetor. the "impulse" line from the engine provides pressure as the engine turns over, which causes the pump to supply the carb with fuel. i don't know if you can feel the impulse pressure by unhooking the line and holding a finger over it as you crank the engine, but maybe this will tell you if you are getting the impulse.

otherwise, i would say the pump isn't working.
