any suggestions, my John Deer 4020 starts and runs for 1 to 3 minutes the dies.

Fuel ...In order of checking... tank outlet, fuel filter, lift pump, injection pump.
What injection pump does the machine have. Stanadyne pumps have a check valve that gets clogged. Then performs as you describe. Means the pump is on its last legs.
