Has anyone had to replace the whole glass door? Take awhile for it to be installed and price reasonable? Used their insurance to help cover?

I had a very dumb moment today. I normally place the tractor in Neutral prior to getting out of the cab incase my daughter hits the lever that will set it to go in motion. A habit I formed whether she is in or not in the tractor just for safety reasons. I got out to open the field gate after dropping a round bale for the horses, I didn't place it in neutral this time and still unsure of myself as to why I didn't when it is such a habit. As I got back into the cab, sat down and went to shut the door, I accidently brushed against the lever. The tractor began to move forward in high 1st gear and I didn't have time to shut it as the motion got me off balance. I stop the tractor as I came up to the gate that I just opened....just barley a bump against a 12inch telephone pole I have as a post in the ground. It shattered the door. :bawling:

Hubby left for Iraq today to top it off. I won't be able to discuss this with him until he calls me. (He is a gov't contractor). He won't be mad. But he will sigh and face palm.

I will be contacting my home insurance to see if (should be?) covered/deductible and calling John Deer for a quote.....

Just wanted anyone's opinions or experiences.

Thank you.

You should place the 1-4 gear selector lever into the parking pawl, then it won't matter if you hit the power reverser. Merely placing the tractor in neutral does not stop the tractor from rolling.

Sorry to hear of your accident. You need to put gear shift selector in park posn. Your daughter could also bump the reverser lever and cause tractor to run over you.

Wishing your husband a safe trip. That's gotta be stressful.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Door should be covered under your tractors comp. insurance if you have tractor comp ins. Note price of aftermarket door outlined in red that comes from A&I which is owned by JD. BTW the PN I listed is for a LH door.

Accidents and damage happen, don't beat yourself. Learn from it. Neutral is not the safe position for a tractor.

... Place the tractor in park position. Even a slight raise or dip in the ground could cause your tractor to roll uncontrolled.

This all brings up a good point. Everyone needs to read the manual before operating a piece of equipment. It only takes 45 mins or so and can save a lot of grief!

You are correct. It has been awhile since I have looked at the manual and now will be doing that on my free time.

We have flat land, so never thought twice about rolling etc. But yes, common sense would think park rather than neutral...lesson learned.

Thanks all who replied. It will be fixed on the 5th and not as costly as I thought so....and at least hubby laughed it off...made me feel a little better.

Careful about ordering the glass from A&I. Unless the dealer has free freight by placing a large order the freight could be 150+.
