John deere 1010, need help with transmission input shaft seal

My 1010's tranny input shaft seal needs to be replaced. Question is, can I split it at the seam between the aft end of the bell housing and the front of the tranny, or do I need to split it at the bell housing/engine first.

Is a 1963 1010RU, sr#33875
