john deere 1010c

I have a john deere 1010 crawler I'm have engine issues it's very hard to start but when I get it running it spits and sputters and when u adjust the throttle it dosent work it continues to stay at a low idle.. what could be my problem?

I assume this is a gas model. Most likely fuel issue. When it is running can you pull the linkage on the carb and get it to accelerate. Also clean the plugs. If it's a diesel It is even more likely it is fuel.

it's gas and I've tried everything replaced plugs, wires, and rebuilt the carb still the same problem

This is going to be a long shot but try adjusting the valves. Older engines suffer from the epa's mandated lack of lead in the gas and the valve seats erode and eventually there's poor compression because of it. Hence poor starting. The throttle I'm not sure. Almost sounds like an linkage or a governor issue. You have fresh fuel in the tank...yes?

Have you replaced the points recently? They can give you fits.

Sounds like it could be late timing. Check your timing mark.

I thought timing too but I double checked and it's on time
