My dad is using his JD 1050 utility tractor with a post hole auger. He wants to know if there is a down pressure adjustment on this tractor. There appears to be down pressure when using a cultivator but we have no idea how to adjust it. Thanks.

There is no down pressure on any tractor's 3 point lift (with a few rare exceptions). But there is a down pressure kit that can be fitting to some 3 point post-hole diggers that uses a hydraulic cylinder, which applies downward force on the post hole digger.

put some weight on the 3ph.

Some old foreign tractors have down pressure. The brand new JD 3 & 4 series have an optional kit for 400ish lbs of down pressure or so. But its very uncommon.

You can get down pressure kits for a 3pt PHD for some of the PHDs. Its a single acting cylinder that's plumbed in a little funky compared to more common hydraulics.

Your easiest solution though is to strap or weld several hundred lbs of weight to the end of the PHD. I hang a 5 gallon bucket full of scrap metal & cement with a chain hanging out to attach to the PHD hook.
