Hi all,
I have a 1988 JD 1050 and the hour meter / tach is not working. The cable is fine. A speedometer shop has opened it up and so far has reported that the meter is fine, but the spring for the tach is broken. He is going to work on it further to see if he can repair, but it's doubtful. Replacement JD id $365. VDO sells one that drops in and either works off the alternator or a shaft pickup. There is another electronic one that is similar, but required different mounting, etc. Anybody have experience with the VDO one? Is it difficult to calibrate, etc? Or any other sources for replacement, either used, new, or different that the original Nisson-denson tach? Thanks, EB
