Welcome Greg. Tell us about your 1050. I had one of those back in the early 80's. It was a hoss. They sound cool when they are working. I liked the turbo whistle. Now I doubt if I could even hear it.

Thanks for the welcome!! My jd 1050 which i just bought from my girl friends mother was a great deal it's 84' or 85' 38hp turbo diesel 4 wd with a loader and back hoe in great shape and fires right up and purrs like a big cat,the hydrolics all work but are very slow, changed fluids and filters and want to change filter screen but not sure where it is, if anybody knows please let me know.we just brought it in the garage so i'll get under it and try to find it.thanks

Hard to explain where it is. Best way is to find a diagram or picture. I had the same problem with my 950 (I'm a dumbass for selling that beast). Cleaning the screen and changing out the fluid did the trick. Quick easy fix for me.

Good luck and please post some pics. I'm really jealous about the backhoe.

Here is a diagram off of JD parts. I looked to see if they had the users manual on line but they don't. That would show you. My guess if you get down underneath you will see the cover for the screen towards the right rear wheel. Look for these hoses etc. You can find this diagram here

The screen is under the left side of the transmission. Remove cover #17 to access.

Apparently you are worried about a possible theft prosecution. Since you brought it up you might as well tell us now. I bought one new back in the early 80's but I can't remember what I paid. Actually, I can't remember much of anything anymore.

Here's a parts catalog photo that may help you find the screen. It should be laying across bottom of trans case.
