I just used by 1070 2 days ago. Went out today and when turning the key on I hear a click and the dash lights come on but it won't do anything else. I crossed the terminals on the starter and it started up. Would the starter just go out after parking it? It looks like the starter and solenoid are all one unit. Is there anything else this could be? Hopefully something cheaper than a new starter. I don't know where to begin to look. Any help is appreciated.

One of the safeties is on. PTO(s) on, still in gear, seat switch. Maybe something under the seat prevents it from starting. Although, if it started and stayed running it might not be a safety switch. My 1070 had a problem where the solenoid contacts wore out. $20 for new contacts for a Denso starter on ebay. Easy to change once the starter is pulled off the tractor.

Where it started and stayed running do you think it would be a safety switch still. I figured if it was a safety that it wouldn't run.

Do you have a volt meter to use to start checking voltage?

Assume you can confirm that the PTO switch is off?

YES most safety switches are in starting not running circuit. There are a few exceptions such as pto switch connected to seat switch

Be sure to check the ground cable from the battery to the frame. My 1070 did the same thing and it ended up being that ground connection at the tractor. Cleaned it up and reassembled with dialectric grease and never had the problem again. It's like it had enough resistance to run glow plugs but not crank the starter.

End up being the PTO switch. I cleaned it up and it works like a charm. Thanks a million guys for your help.
