john deere 14t knotter problems

   / john deere 14t knotter problems #11
I am having the same problem after having both needles break! :-( I have been through the possible causes and found the tucker fingers a little out of adjustment, adjusted them and replaced the return spring for the tucker fingers because someone previous to me had installed a spring that was too long and this situation of the knot being tied over the bale end but not the needle end is now present since needle replacement. Needles are perfectly adjusted per book, twine is being placed properly into the disk holder, tucker fingers are adjusted properly and catching the twine and pulling it into the twine disc holder, too! Hay dogs are all free, entering bale chamber as they should and haydog springs are all good and inplace. Have tried to change the tension on the twine disc holder without any change in the tieing problem.
I would also appreciate any suggestions as to what to check next!
Thanks in advance!

After checking my neighbors 14T baler, I have found that mine has jumped time. Retimed it and appears to be ok now, going to bale tomorrow if the rain stays away long enough.
Thanks any!

I have purchased a 14T square baler that has been kept in a barn and maintained well to cut 8 acres of hay for personal use. Everything seems to work well except when it ties the knot the end of the string towards the back end of the baler is a loose knot and the end towards the front of the baler is just a tag end. This is the same on both sides of the bale. I am sure it needs an adjustment since both sides do the same thing. I have tried loosening and tightening the bale tension but nothing changed. See pics below. Any help would be appreciated. Hay is on the ground.

Looks like your tucker fingers are stuck and missing the twine when the needles come up

I appreciate the info from all of you. I have ordered the manual but it is not here yet. After reading your responses I went out and identified the knotter parts with a parts pdf I downloaded. I am glad to say that the return spring on the tucker fingers was broken. 1 spring later and all is knotting well.

Now, can anyone tell me how to tighten up the bale so that the strings don't stretch to your waist before the bale comes off the ground.

Thank's alot.

Ron
One thing that helped me with Loose strings is slowing down the rpm’s on the tractor, my father-in-law always run at 1609 rpm and we always had loose bales which is a pain to stack, I started doing the baling and I run about 1200 rpm and I have good tight bales
