Hi
Anybody body own/have owned one of these?
Have a chance to buy one (yes I know they are old......but not as old as the tractors I use now )
Looks in reasonable mechanical condition.
It does have a slow oil leak on the lower left hand lift arm of the TPH. It appears to be coming from around the pin the arm is attached to. Are they a screw in pin or a press fit?.......should I be worried about a cracked rear end casting?
So can anybody tell me are they a "good" John Deere or better left alone.
Good or bad features about this model.
Anybody had one with a FEL..This one has a cab and it looks as though fitting a FEL would not be easy.
Any info would help.

1640's were built for sales in Countries other than the USA. Some were built strictly for sales in Spain. To repair the hyd leak the trans oil needs to be drained and shaft(parts key #19 or 32) must be removed to access the seals(parts keys 29 & 30). I would suggest checking the PH of coolant to hopefully eliminate the possibility of buying a tractor that will need the engine liners replaced shortly because of cavitation.
