John Deere 2030
Hello, I have a John Deere 2030 8 speed no reverser and no hi-lo, pto lever is between the shifters it has a 146 loader which is currently off the tractor. Here is my problem, when the tractor gets up to operating temp the only way the three point will raise or power steering will work is if you rev the tractor way up. When the oil is cold it seems to work ok. I changed the oil and filtter and checked the screen. Also I looked through the oil fill for oil spraying with the three point all the way up, no oil spraying but there is a steady stream of oil comming down. Any help would be greatly appreicated. Thanks.

:welcome: to TBN
Steady stream of oil viewed in hyd filler hole indicates that 3 pt control valve seals &/or rockshaft piston seal is leaking. I recommend replacing both while RS cover is off of tractor. You could also cap power steering feed line on RH of tractor to determine if PS is leaking internally or use laser thermometer to see if PS valve housing is hotter than rest of hyd's.

I have another diagnostic thought: Does tractor have SCV? If so loosen mounting bolts then remove return hose from RS housing. Crank engine and no oil should exit hose with control lever(s) in neutral.

Thanks for the info, I know it's been awhile lot of irons in the fire, we have all the seals/ orings replaced with the exception of the rockshaft piston seal. It appears that JD updated from the original, the plastic ring is now solid not split any suggestions on how to get it on the piston. Again thanks for your help.

Warm plastic ring in warm water then slide ring onto piston.

I will add that when sliding plastic ring over the piston, it will stretch some and make it difficult to slide piston in the cylinder without damaging the new seal. Try compressing it with a ring compressor or hose clamp. If using a hose clamp, use a piece of shim stock or even a piece of thin cardboard between seal and clamp to prevent damaging the seal. If you compress it for 10 minutes or so, it will slide in much easier. Put grease or oil on seal before sliding piston back in.

Everything is back together and the only problem we solved is the three point doesn't settle anymore, which needed to be fixed anyway. Still the same problem, when the tractor/oil is cold everything works fine but once it warms up the steering, three point and loader chatter/move slow. What about the lines for the pto that can fail is there any way to test them. Thanks, Tom.

The internal lines for the PTO when they fail will cause an internal leak to sump for the line that fails. Either the PTO clutch line or PTO brake line. Temperature would not make a difference. Only way to test is see if symtoms change when PTO is engaged.
ON my 2030 the PTO clutch line failed (broke) causing a leak to sump and loss of other hydraulics. Disengaging the PTO and hydraulics returned to normal. Replacement lines are heavier than originals. I recommend replacing both if you split the tractor for any reason.

1st test hyd pressure on test port under cover that gearshift levers protrude through after removing cover. Pressure should be 155 psi. Then to test hyd pto clutch & brake tubes remove trans shift cover and blow compressed air into tubes while listening for escaping air. How is loader controlled(scv or ind valve)? Cap line leading to power steering then operate with no PS and report back how hyd operate.

Loader has ind valve, capped PS and three point raises normal, no chatter, loader is currently off tractor.

If 3 pt raises normal with PS supply capped then PS has one or more blown o-rings(parts key 4). O-ring can be renewed while valve body remains on tractor by removing steering wheel then remove big nut then screw shaft with control valves out of PS housing.
