Just want to know if anyone has experience running a JD 2040 and bush hog. What size it the biggest it can handle, and do you prefer lift or pull type?
I recently downsized tractors, now need to downsize bush hogs, but want to use as big as I can without over-working the tractor. I will not be cutting heavy brush, just keeping fields maintained (very thick grass/weeds sometimes).

Thoughts?

I'd say 7'!

Depends on mowing conditions. If heavy brush clearing work, I'd get about the heaviest 6' cutter you can afford.

If just light pasture maintenance, and nothing too overgrown and wide open areas, I'd be looking 8' twin spindle.

The 2040 has a nice selection of gears in the 2 - 6 MPH range for bushhogging:thumbsup:
