John Deere 265 need specs for complete rebuild of Kawasaki FC540V engine

My husband has been asked, by a friend, to rebuild his old JD265 engine. (Serial #M00265A161919) My husband does not do the computer so I get to spend my time looking for the specs for him, thus the odd name, Handigranny. He has the owners manual, but nothing showing specs or parts. He has no idea what is going to be involved and is afraid to start it without complete information. I have been able to find some parts info but nothing as to specs. Sure hope someone out there can help. Then I can get back to cooking and cleaning!

Does your husband normally rebuild engines? What particular "specs" is he looking for? To see if after teardown, that parts are within spec?

Yes, he has rebuilt several old tractors. One is now his regular for mowing. He was hoping to get complete specs for this model. You are right, everything will have to be checked. Mower has been sitting for several years and the complaint was "seems to be leaking oil from everywhere." I was checking on Firefox, Guess I should have googled it. Thanks for the info and the welcome. Ham and beans are in the pot for today.
