This my latest effort. Paid $250 and got a second one for parts. I spent 3 days greasing and spraying. Two cans of nut buster and 2 cans of Wd40. The sickle bar was frozen, but a little persuasion lots of nut buster and it's running like a Swiss watch. I love combines, they're a real Rube Goldburg DSC00774.JPGDSC00775.JPG

We had a model 1 when I was a kid. No tank you had to ride it and bag everything, then go back in the evening and pick up bags out of the field. Hot itchy job but it did the job. It was sold to a welder who used it for scrap at his shop. Ed

That is a great combine. I've always been intrigued by the multitude of things they do to get the crop off the ground off the stalk, clean out the chaff and throw the waste out back and just leave you with clean grain or seed.

I was for the longest time dead set on restoring an old Allis Chalmers All-crop combine but they are so wide and cumbersome that getting them shipped cost more than the item itself.

This one wasn't far from our home. Country roads all the way and it's a good thing, cuz it took up both lanes. I made an off set hitch to bring the second one home. I love making grain, seeing that clean grain flow into the hopper is a real pretty sight. This one won't be yard art, nor do I find it a disagreeable job, but thats just me.

The off set hitch was a good idea. I pulled a hay conditioner down the outside lane of a 4 lane one time and kept hearing somthing go smack! After three or four smacks, I realized the conditioner was hitting mailboxes. I called the owners and not a one would let me pay for their mail box.

I had an All-Crop, the fellow I sold it to said he'd have to get someone to flag the bridge when he pulled it over into the next county.

Last All-crop 60 I bought, I winched it up on an 8' wide trailer and brought it home, 200 miles... No problem at all....

That there is funny. If you came down my road and hit the mailbox, you'd have serious collateral damage. Mine is on a steel post in concrete and the 'box' is 1/8" steel plate welded to a 1/2" base with a plate steel door. Got tired of the farm kids 'Teeing it off' every week

I've thought about fixing mine kind of like that, but I'm afraid someone might run into it and get hurt.

When you think of it though, there are a lot of hobby farms that maybe a couple of guys could go in on one and save some money. The big guys do not have time to come to a small field of 2-5 acres.I do wish there was a small one still made or an older one that parts were still available for.And a pto model would be cheaper since no powertrain involved.

Please post some harvesting pictures when you use the combine. Some of us would enjoy those pictures too.
