John Deere 325 Garden tractor - Battery Charging Light

Charging light coming intermittently on when running. Charge light at half brightness at times. no PTO is engaged. When PTO is engaged or lights turned on, it is more frequent.


Cleaned all connections. New Battery. Engine is a Kawasaki 18HP

Including the grounds?

Also it isn't uncommon on older machines for cable to go bad inside the sheath or the connector. It may look good on the outside and the connector itself may look good, but the wire could be corroded inside the connector.

I was having similar problem then when engaged PTO(snowblower). no issue when off. I tolerated it during the winter months.

Today(spring) with PTO disconnected, i'M getting discharge light(half bright) from time to time. The battery has never discharged.

That said after cleaning all connections, I was considering swapping the regulator(least expensive) as the next step. and after that the stator?

or maybe i should ignore?

Typically when the alternator light comes on, it indicates a poor charging system.

I would help if you told us what the engine model is and what year your tractor is.

Before you start throwing parts at it, do some checking first. But before you can do that, you need to know what the wiring diagram looks like and what the specs are for your machine.

I have a JD GT 235 I bought used about 15 years ago. The battery light has been on since I bought it and I have no charging problems. I have no idea the purpose of the light.

buck12 , that means there is either a connection issue (corrosion/broken or loose wire) from the VR to the battery which has the detection circuit that turns the battery lamp on.
