John Deere 401C
I have a problem with my 401C hydraulics. I have replaced front pump, charge pump, rebuilt the steering sector, and the tractor barely moves. The hydraulic loader chatters and the steering is tough. I have changed the filters numerous times. Is there a easy place to pull a pressure test. Or does anyone have ony other ideas? I am open for suggestions. The mechanic I had working on it past away from cancer and I am forced to figure this thing out myself..

You have a closed center hyd system.

You should have pressure at any of the valves IN port.

Hyd chatter could be caused by air leak in the suction hose.

Check also for air in your hyd system. Look in the tank for bubbles.

Find the air leak first and then purge the air by operating the cylinders many times.

This sounds similar to my issue. Pull your return line for the loader where it goes into the sump, then turn the tractor on and see if you have fluid coming out. If you do your bypassing fluid through the loader valvesand they need to be rebuilt or replaced if you can't get the parts.
