So here's the deal. I picked up a new John Deere 4066r with a cab back in January. Let me say for the record that this is one incredible tractor. I know there is some concern about Tier IV emission requirements but I decided to "throw caution to the wind" and buy the new technology. So far I am glad a I did. I've posted before how clean the engine the runs at start up with barely a hint of burnt diesel fuel. My 3720, is an excellent compact utility tractor, would full the shed with diesel smoke at least until it warmed. Once warmed up, not so bad, yet after a days work letting it idle before stopping there was some significant emissions.
Now, I know your asking, what does this have to do with the title of your post about "wipers". So, I thought I would "nitpick" just a little to prove that I am not in a complete daze over the new beautiful tractor.
In SE Minnesota we had nearly a foot of wet snow overnight on Wednesday and into Thursday morning. It was necessary to use both the front and rear wipers to see as the temperature was about 32 degrees. John Deere only gives us a choice of two speeds on the wiper, low and high, and as you know , the sound of the wiper on a dry glass is particularly annoying. So this necessitates the constant turning on and off both the front and rear wipers.
Now, I know what you are thinking. This guy must not have much to complain about if the only thing he has to worry about is a noisy windshield wiper. And your right, plowing snow at 72 degrees in the cab listening to the radio hardly seems like an abused tractor operator.
It just seems that when John Deere gets about $8,000 for the cab on the 4000 series that they could add an "intermittent" feature for the wipers like our cars and trucks have had for 30 years. I doubt whether it could add more than about ten bucks to install a switch that offers this feature. Heck, make it a dealer installed option for $50 and I will buy it. More money for John Deere and less complaining from me. We both win.
As I said, I know I am nitpicking a little here but I'm serious at the same time. Maybe we will see the feature in the future then I can down to some serious complaining about the 4066r. But so far I find myself enjoying the tractor more each day. The hitch assist feature which allow the tractor to move forward and backward while hooking up your three point implements is incredible. Being able to control the three point hitch from the back of the tractor is amazing as well.
I know there is an issue with the selective control valve for the loader control that is still unresolved but I understand we should see the new valve this summer. But all in all, this tractor is a winner in my view.
