John Deere 4100 fuel solenoid intermittent pull in.I replaced the solenoid and switched the fuel and start relay with no change, sometimes it starts sometime it cranks but no start. I can hear if the solenoid pulls in ,its intermittent.
I think the problem started after the battery went bad,I jump started it and ran Ok ,later fuel solenoid problem . I replaced the battery. With the switch ON the battery light is not on could this be part of the problem?

Welcome to the forum!

I'm going to move this thread over to our John Deere section.

Start by cleaning the battery terminals and the clamps which attach to them. Be sure your wires are not corroded where they go into the connectors. Check the point where the cable attaches to the frame. Clean and tighten.

AND,, charge the battery,, my 4105 did exactly that when the dealer delivered the tractor (I bought it used)

After several chargings,, the battery voltage was high enough to make the solenoid pull in,,,

My 4200 fuel solenoid does the same thing. I have found tapping it while apply heat and activating the priming lever works well.

There may be a problem with the solenoid filling with oil & then not operating. The solenoid only activates the fuel pump. It does not shut off the fuel.

Something to check.......I had similar problems after jumping a 4110.

Under the seat is a control box that integrates all the safety inputs and controls the 1.0 sec (or so) higher voltage to the solenoid. Parts of mine shorted out either because I jumped the tractor or ran it too long with a failing battery. Didn't discover at first, intermittent start symptoms as you described.

Did you notice something that smelled like burning brakes? If the 4100 control module set up is like mine, its under the seat. It does come apart if you'd like to inspect the motherboard. Mine had a noticeable smell of burnt fiberglass/epoxy.

If you don't want to pull the box apart you can check the output of the solenoid lead with a voltmeter. You'll need to run down a wiring diagram..

Search my previous post and you'll find pictures and a discussion.

Good luck

I removed the ECU and it was overheated looked like the pictures on your previous post. Will have to find a new one, should be back to running.
Thanks for your info it has been a great help.

Welcome to TBN, sorry it had to be for bad news. Think the Deere PN for the control box might be M807913 ????? Was about $350 in 2015.

Good news is when installed with a new battery, my replacement hasn't fried in over 4 years. Guess the moral of the story on this generation CUT is to be very cautious with old and potentially dying batteries. The link I attached tosses around a few ideas what could have cooked my board. A search of the M807913 part will lead to several dead battery (maybe) related failures on the 4100/4010/15s.

Good luck with the repair.
