john deere 4110
i have a john deere 4110 thats about 3 yrs old. its been working just fine until couple days ago it started to stall in high gear ( sometimes). if i switch it to low, it picks up a lil bit and carries on smoothly. but at times during an uphill it stalls in high gear and the engine totally shuts off. any ideas? could this be bad fuel, checked the oil, etc, all good. my only guess is bad fuel.

appreciate any responses

Change fuel filter. Disconnect hose from filter and blow air back to tank to clear screen. You are losing power at high loads because the engine cannot get enough fuel. Mine does it every few years, usually the tank screen. Good luck.

the tractor has been doing just fine, did as you guys told me to do, but now occasionally and not very often the tractor stalls for about 5-10 secs. it doesn't come to a full stop, it just stalls and then picks up again when i slow down and wait for a few seconds. it happens at odd times, doesn't really have to be uphill, just on the road or off the road. any ideas?? bad gas?

thanks

Did you blow out the line from the filter to the tank?

sorry for the late rep;ly guys. yes i blew air and still stalls. its gotten worse last 2 days. i changed the filters, everything looks clean except this stalling. could this be bad gas? i was thinking of putting some seafoam in it but i hear it';s bad for the motor. any more hints appreciated. thanks

Bout the only idea I have for you is when it acts up, try loosening or removing fuel cap. I would drain fuel and try some fresh stuff to.

Retighen all fuel clamps and reinstall filter checking for any restictions or way it could suck air. If under load and you back off it regains right away, then it could be the injector pump I guess. If it takes awhile to recover, I still think something is restricting fuel to the injectors or vapor locking.

Got me a little stumped.

When you blow the line back into the tank you should be able to hear a difference when the clog clears, at least that's how it was on my old BHL, but that doesn't have a screen. I had to siphon and filter the fuel a bunch of times to get the junk out. I used a paint filter in a funnel.

i could try that, so this is likely a fuel issue than anything else is what you're saying?

ok it starts just fine now, was a minor mistake on my part and i assumed it didnt start. but there is still that bit of stalling, im going to have the fuel tank emptied and see if there's anything like you mentioned. im losing out of ideas now.

That's where I would start.
Everything seems to be pointing to a dirty tank, could be other things, but start there first(considering the filter was dirty).
But it could just as easily be one of the safety switches malfunctioning. But I would at the very least, drain the tank and look inside.

Thanks. :)
Now to clean the tank.
First, can I drain the tank just by removing the hose from the fuel filter to the tank or do I siphon?
Next, how do I clean the tank? I just read where I can drop in metal ball bearings or screws, add alcohol, and use compressed air to agitate everything in there, and scour the tank clean. Use a magnet to remove the metal balls and then siphon the remaining alcohol. Or is there a better way?

Try this. Use a separate fuel container with fresh fuel, and put a hose from the container to the fuel filter. If it still acts up, bypass the fuel filter, and try that. If it runs good for about a half hour, back track through the rest of the system.
