I have a JD 4200 and the forward and reverse pedals stick. You can push down on them and take your foot off and they will stay down. Only way to stop the tractor is push the other pedal. My foot is big enough that I have just been covering both pedals but my neighbor almost crashed my tractor into my Jeep so I think it is time to fix it.

I have put grease on the parts that come up through the floor board but that didn't help. Is there some other simple thing that I should look for that would fix this problem?

Thanks

If you look at the attached parts layout, you will see there are lots of pivot points that need to be checked and lubricated, as well as the shaft/spring combo (#50 and #51) that is for returning the pedals to neutral.

Hope this helps:D

I think there's also a spring to return the pedals to neutral make sure it's not broken. There's a grease fitting up in there somewhere also however all the pivot points don't have fittings. When I grease mine I also squirt a little oil or wd-40 on the pivot points that don't have fittings. Don't use too much or it may attract dirt and cause the same problem. A dry lube would probably be best.

I am not familiar with your machine, but my Massey does the same thing if I forget to take it out of cruise control.

Do you have cruise?

I have it but the switch is off. Anyone know how to ensure it is really off with the switch off and not somehow stuck on?

I don't think it's the switch. It has to be engaged after you depress the pedal plus you wouldn't be able to push the other pedal to change direction. You'd have to either push on the brake pedal or disengage the cruise using the switch.

On my 4010, the forward pedal just collapsed. A cotter pin came out of the shaft on which the pedal is attached. I managed to back it up to where I could get underneath there to put a new pin in. I put a circular pin into the hole (think it was an old key chain circle). That shouldn't come out. Put a washer behind it to keep the pedal from directly rubbing it. Still working.

The cruise only works on the forward pedal. I have frequently had sticks get up into the linkage and hold the pedals up or down.
Once I shut the engine off to investigate while up in the bush. Then it would not restart until I removed it from the rock that had rolled under and jammed the linkage. Finally had to walk back to the barn for a bar and shovel before the safety switch would let me restart......
Generally I just keep things under there well oiled and greased. WD40 has never worked for me on something like this.
Another sore point is the brake shafts where they enter the rear housing. If you don't keep them oiled, and use the brakes often enough, they seize in the on position when you do use them. (with hydro you ternd to forget about the brake pedal)

I agree with other posters that it sounds like something needs to be lubed, a spring is not functioning correctly or a piece of debris is caught up in there, or a combination.

The cruise control only works after you attain the forward speed you desire and the solenoid is energized to hold the pedal down, so I doubt the cruise control is the problem.

take a can of fluid film and kennyd's diagram
and get under the tractor and lube any place that the
shaft pivots, bushings etc. then, work those pedals,
over and over and over, spray again, and then , work them some more.
back and forth.
that's all mechanical linkage there, no electronics like the 10 or 20 series,
and once you get things freed up you should be fine.

it would be a good idea to hit the shafts under the seat where
the rockshaft control is, and also transmission range selector shaft,
along with any brake linkages.. sometimes the brakes will start to sieze
up also because the shafts etc are drying out.
