3-Point Hitch John Deere 420W 3 Pt Not Working

Just added this one to my collection, I do not have a service manual so I really other than adding fluid to the resivoir under the seat I am not sure where to begin as far as troubleshooting, It will not lift, it's dead, when engine is running clutch engaged or not engaged, driving or idling still, pulling black knobs #1 and #2 back and forth, hear no pump noise, cannot see fluid in the tank port as of yet, does this tank need to be filled to rim? the cap does not appear to seal tight so I was affraid to fill to rim.

I have a 56 420w that has the same problem. I noticed that the two pistons under the left portion of the seat don't move when I pull the lever so I am going to try taking them out in the next week or so and see if I can free them up. will let you know how I make out. I posted a similar question a while back and had limited responses so good luck. The only fluid I checked was in the very rear of the case and when I took the plug out it was overfilled and water was mixed in. I drained it and refilled with gear oil and still no luck. Let me know if you are able to find out what your fix is.

I put this tractor on the back burner inside the shed, it just seems to have too many bugs that need attention and I just do not have the time to dedicate to it, I did purchase a shop manual and it talks about filling the fluid until it comes out of the plug hole at ear, not good you had water mixed in yours, that happened to my JD520 Trans when they water media blasted it for paint, I drain it every couple of years, fill it with fresh flush fluid then fill with gear oil and drive on for another few years, this year I am do for my oil change and trans gear change, Please do let me know what happens with the 420, I will work on mine again
