JOHN DEERE 4300 PTO WILL NOT DISENGAGE

I'm working on a john deere 4300 hst. the pto quit working. I took it apart and found it had the old shift paddles in it and they were worn bad. so I replaced them with the new style I also replaced the shift collor and pto clutch and brake fingers. Now the pto engages fine but you have to hit the pto lever hard with your palm 2 or 3 times before it disengages and now it is shearing the pto lever roll pin. has anyone else had this problem? I am out of ideas.
