Hi all,

Going to look at a John Deere 4310 tomorrow, and I am wondering about general opinions on this model and pricing. It has a hydrostatic transmission, R4s, 4x4, and is pretty decked out with convenience features, rear remotes, cruise control, deluxe seat, etc. It comes with a 430 loader and an older 60 bush hog.

Not sure the exact year (2002-2004), but has 2,100 hrs, which is a little higher than I would like. Was just serviced, and appears to be in good shape from the pictures. Asking price is $11,750 from a private seller, not the original owner.

Thoughts and opinions?
Thanks!

Well I know it’s a day late but I’ll go. I owned a 4310, great machine. That and the 4410 are probably my favorite Deere machines. Small enough to maneuver and not tear up the ground but have enough weight and power to get the job done.
All that said I wouldn’t pay $11,750 for one with 2100 hours. It’s not a terrible price but you can do better.

Thanks. Not too late. I am going later today. Any idea of a fair price? The asking price is around 10-20% under dealer retail from what I can see.

I would not worry about 2100 hours. I used the same model at a YMCA camp. Many others used it too, so it was used and abused. Check the range lever shifts easy. That one was hard to shift between ranges and a guy forced it and broke off the range lever. Big repair bill.

Thanks for the help everyone. I passed on the tractor.

I really liked the model, seemed very capable for its size, but this particular example was just too rough for my liking. Lots of broken plastic, dents, and a fair amount of rust as well. Some electrical issues too. The parking brake indicator light was stuck on. The cruse control was not working, and I could not tell if it was shifting into 4x4 properly. I did not hear anything engage when flipping the front wheel assist (MWFD) switch on the dash, and there was no change in driving characteristics after doing so, which you would expect when shifting into 4wd.

Oh well.. the search continues. I can see why people buy new. The used market is full of junk, or nice machines priced just a touch under new. Been looking every day for 4-5 months and nothing. Ugh.

I see I am too late to the discussion.

I bought a 4310 at auction in December and have been fixing it up. I am almost at 11 grand now but I have all new cylinders, hoses, hood, cowl, floor mat, and tires at that price. Most of the ones I've seen advertised that look to be in good condition are asking 15 up.

You can buy the plastic aftermarket like JD855guy did.

the brake light staying on is a need to tear apart the shaft that connects the brake pedal and lube it.

the 4x4 engages with very subtle engagement.

If hydro, there are 2 flywheel sensors that both need to work for load match and cruise IIRC. I have tried to find them aftermarket with no luck. They are hall effect sensors and Deere gets more than they should for them. 1 of mine has been out for some time, but I rarely use load match because I know the tractor so well. I don't need it.

The range shifter needs lubed waaaaay down low at it's shaft. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, don't force the range lever, you can break it off at the shaft. Just kind of knudge it back and forth to go up or down. LUBE it down low.
