John Deere 4400 cranking problems

I have a John Deere 4400 which has always cranked at the touch of the key. However for the past month or so it will crank one day and not the next. When it does crank it will not recrank if you turn it off. It is usually 2 days before it will crank again. It will turn over but not fire even if you just turned it off. I have checked all I know so any help will be appreciated.

When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel cutoff solenoid activate? You should hear a click from the motor just to turn the key on and not actuate starter.

Two TOTALLY different things. Your post says it wont crank.....then later you say it will crank but not fire. So which is it?

Might also help to mention what you have already checked in a little more detail than "all I know".

You are positive that you hear the fuel solenoid clicking when you turn the key on and off during the time it will not fire during turning over? During the next no start turn off and on the key several times to listen for the click.
