Lever no longer works so you can move steering wheel up and back. Steering column feels loose also. Anyone have a link for step by step repair?

I just had mine apart because it had gotten so stiff. The shaft needed cleaning and lubed and there is no way you can spray anything to lube it. It is a fairly involve process. I used a puller to get off the steering wheel, but I actually pulled the rubber steering wheel off of it's molded in hub. I trimmed the rubber edge, sprayed some sticky form a gasket in the wheel's hub, and pressed in the center bushing. You have to disconnect the dash and most of the harness connectors. The tilt mechanism is a bit tricky to get back together with the springs and such.
It totally fixed my "tight steering" problems. A cheap but difficult lube job.

The manual just states "Use a suitable puller". I used a puller with 3 instead of 2 grippers. The grippers did not reach underneath the rubber suitably to do the job and so that's why I pulled the wheel off the hub. Manual also states to use grease on shaft and splines when re-assembling it so that it can come off easier next time.
The teeth on my tilt were broken... I've replaced the items. That part of it working. Problem I have is how to get the console back on? Is there a certain position to set the column (up, down or centered) to get the plastic activation latch in the console reconnect to the column?

mnzy don't know for sure if the same type but the teeth on my 4520 tilt adjuster becoming worn would slip and tilt the steering when holding and getting off the tractor. enough to cause tripping off the tractor. used strong spring to circle steering rod and hold the tension from releasing. past 8 years never has slipped again.
