Pump did not work so we pulled out of the tank and removed the very dirty filter. Reinstalled with out filter, (we broke it) it started working and it idled for about 10 minutes then quit. The tank was full, there is power to the pump. Any ideas short of replacing pump?

If I follow what you did, (reinstalled without filter) then pumping fuel without a filter may have sent a slug from dirty fuel into the injectors.

Can you test if you are pumping fuel, or the pump just isn't working?
Don't quite follow the logic why you would pull out a dirty filter and then try using that dirty fuel without a filter.
Or am I missing something in the explanation?

I think it is just a prefilter in the tank and the actual primary filter is on the engine, so no harm there. I would pull the fuel line and make sure it is pumping fuel. If not, and it has power, then you have your answere right there !

You might find a filter on the right side of the frame half way between the engine and trans axle.

Those pumps are real expensive, but they rarely fail also.
If the filter inside the pump was that dirty, you need to take the fuel tank out to flush it and get a clean tank before you spend any more money. And do not use it without that filter at all, to prevent damage to the pump.
Can you "hear" the pump running for the 1st 5 seconds or so when you turn the switch on?
The connector on top could possibly be the problem vs. the pump.
The pump also has a fuse.

If you are now aware, the 445 works similar to a diesel, in that you are supposed to turn the switch on and wait for the light to go off.
This runs the pump to build up pressure for the injector to start.

And the main fuel filter is under the main shell on the right side of the frame between your legs. I bet it needs replacing.

Update: I just noticed the 455, vs. 445. My bad. The 445 is gas. The pump setup may be similar, but I'm not sure where the filter is on the diesel.

Pull the pump again. Replace the 2" fuel line between the pump and the external fuel line. I bet that fixes the problem. It did when mine was doing the same thing this spring.
