Tractor
John Deere
I was bushogging on my property yesterday and saw hydraulic fluid coming from underneath the tractor. Shut off the bushhog and made it back to my barn. When I got there I had lost quite a bit of fluid and I saw that the manifold on the transmission suction line and implement pump line had gotten pushed up and off the pump. The pump I'm talking about sits up on the left side of the engine. The only thing holding that rubber manifold on is a standard "radiator" clamp. It had gotten pushed off so I loosened it and reattached it. No more leaking. However the tractor will not move now. When you operate the powerreversor lever you can hear it trying to engage, but no movement. I lost quite a bit of fluid so it would seem to me that I just need to add fluid back to it. However the dipstick in the back shows it is full. It really can't be, but that is what the dipstick says. I've only owned the tractor about six months and the dipstick has always shown way overfull. So... even though the dipstick shows full, I'm 99.9% sure it needs fluid because I lost quite a lot. Front end loader still works but the power reverser is not operating. So should I add fluid anyway? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not an expert by any means but I would guess that you're low on fluid or you have air in the system that needs purged.

Your rubber manifold might also be sucking in air too if it was damaged. I read on here that they can cause problems when they start getting cracked. I replaced the one on my 4310 last year when I added a block heater. I was not having problems with it but it was showing its age. It was only $17 at the dealer.

Add a little Deere fluid (it's expensive but the consensus is that it works the best) and then try cycling the loader, 3 pt hitch and turning the steering wheel several times.

How long has it been since you changed out all the hydraulic fluid and filters. Might use this as an excuse to do that.

Thanks for your reply. What has been throwing me is that the dipstick always shows full. I went ahead and put some fluid in it and it started working again. However, I am going to take your suggestion concerning the manifold. I can't see any problem with it. It just got knocked off. But the tractor is several years old and I don't know for sure if it has ever been replaced. I am going to replace it just to be safe.

It is a bit disconcerting that the dipstick always shows full. Not sure what to do with that.

Possibility you have the wrong dipstick? Any chance you could find someone with the same tractor and compare?
