John Deere 5045D wont start...only 98 hours

I've got a 5045D john Deere 2WD that only has 98 hours on it. It's been working like a dream...until yesterday. I attempt to crank it.....and no ignition happens....it's almost as if I've got it in gear (or I dont have the clutch in)...but none of that is the case. It's out of gear, the clutch is in....and it will not turn over. The battery is fine....the lights on the console come on....but the starter will not engage. Off the top of my head...I'm thinking there's a fault switch or something in play...but for the life of me...I do not know what it is. I make sure it's out of gear....the PTO is off....the clutch is in. ....and nothing.

Any help is appreciated.

I would think it is a safety switch issue. Have you checked the fuses. Looking at the operators manual it appears there is a PTO and neutral safety switch. You might try engaging and disengaging the PTO and move around the gear shift lever as well as putting it in neutral to start. What were you using the tractor for last? These switches only come in play for starting, so if they get disconnected during operation you would not know it. I have included a picture of starting for 5X10, it may be close to yours. If you have a volt you may want to start by testing the safety switches.

Attached is a picture of safety switch location for a 5103, I would think yours should be about in the same place. You can go to JDparts.com, then select parts (left side of page), then look at wiring harness rear to see what the switches look like and location.

I was bushhogging for about 5 hours ....brought it back to the house...turned it off.....then two days hopped on, tried to start and nothing. I will definitely give your suggestions a try. I really appreciate it!
