2012 John Deere 5093E
I bought a 2012 5093E with 64 hours on it..I'm not real happy with it..In shop twice for a.c. issues, in my opinion it smokes more than I think it should, the aluminum hydraulics lines get hotter than I think they should, there is a little vibrating sound in the shifter when operating that is very annoying and when I stand behind the tractor I hear a slight rattle coming from the hydraulics..I'd like to hear from others who have a similar model..Pros and cons...

I have a 2011 5083E and I have been very happy with it. I switched the AC lines and the AC works like a champ now. It will freeze me out of the cab. The rattle in the shifter is from the nut that holds the base onto the stalk. Get a screw driver or a torx and open it up, tighten the nut. and put it back together.

I'm not sure what your rattle would be? Is there something loose on the machine somewhere? Have you checked all the fluids? I have around 400 hours on mine and besides the tires splitting a bit (we have alot of sharp shale) I'm pretty pleased with it. I should have gotten more HP but the budget wouldn't let me!

The AC issues sound like a real problem, but how did you judge that the hydraulic lines get hotter than you think they should and what method are you using to judge the amount of smoke? If you're not happy, then return it.

Just returned from the dealer and my tractor is ready to bring home...Service manager said the clutch fan was out on the a.c. and it has been replaced..The first time I had it in the shop they said they had to replace the expansion valve..That repair lasted two days...He said the injector timing is within specs and even though it smokes there is nothing wrong with it..The aluminum hydraulic lines at the dual SCV's in the back of the tractor will get so hot I cannot hold them firmly for more than a couple of seconds after I've been mowing the pasture..He said that was normal and that the hydraulic system is a closed system and that the hydraulic fluid will get as hot as the transmission which is around 180 degrees F..

Touching parts of a machine to determine if you think they are getting too hot is really not a good idea. :)

A rule to go by on temp of hydraulic oil is 100 degrees plus ambient temp

Sounds like this is one of several issues I have with this tractor that I can stop worrying about..
Thanks

Your dealers service manager needs to do a little research(studying) as your tractor hydraulics is OPEN center not CLOSED center. If SM doesn't know which type hyd's your tractor has I wonder what else he doesn't know. I would like for this SM to explain if he thinks your hyd system is closed center what causes your tractor's hyd gear pump to stop pumping oil while engine is running PS: I'm a former JD dealer service manager myself and understand how both open & closed hyd systems operate.
