I have a 2004 John Deere 5103, it's a 50hp tractor and I was seeing anyone and everyone's opinion on running a John Deere 609 rotary cutter behind it, which is a 6' heavy duty. I have recently acquired the cutter but have had the tractor for a while running a mid-duty 5' rotary cutter. As I cut with the JD 609 I can notice when I hit thick spots in grass as opposed to not feeling much different with the 5'. It is not a drastic difference but in some cases where the grass was super thick it would drop about 100 rpms (2200 to 2100 rpms) but if I have the rpms at 2300 it cuts a lot better.
So here is my question:
- is a JD 5103 strong enough to use the JD609 without putting it under too much strain?
