John Deere 5105
Hello, I'm new here and looking for some help
I've purchased a used Deere 5105, it runs great but the fuel gauge seems to be stuck on full, and the flashers don't work. I've done a little investigating and found some wires that are disconnected under the tractor under the rops on the left side, and completely pulled out and stripped on the right side. I thought I could just reconnect the wires, but nothing is that simple. I've got multiple wires that appear to be the same color, some male and some female connectors etc. I guess I need a detailed electrical schematics for the tractor if anyone has access to one. Thanks for any help

You might consider getting the tech manual for $29.95 from selectmanuals.com. It includes the wiring diagram.

The wire from the fuel sender to the cluster is orange and is numbered 353. There should also be a black ground connected to the sender. Touch the orange to ground and the fuel gauge should go to full.

Sender assembly consists of a movable float mounted to a variable resistor (potentiometer). Resistance of potentiometer on gauge sensing circuit controls the fuel level shown on gauge. As float moves up or down with changes in fuel level, electrical resistance of potentiometer changes accordingly. When tank is full, resistance is low and gauge needle moves to full position. When tank is empty, resistance is high, and gauge needle moves to empty position. Potentiometer resistance between these two positions varies in direct proportion to changes in fuel level. This allows gauge to accurately display quantity of fuel in tank regardless of its level.

Here is a link to the operators manual if you did not get one.

Thanks JD5210. I think I will purchase a manual soon. I was hoping if I reconnected all the wires correctly, it might solve my problem with the fuel gauge. I am going to climb under the tractor and see how many wires are disconnected and try to reattach them to the correct wires. I just thought someone may have had this problem and had a schematic drawing that they could share. If reconnecting them doesn't fix the problems, then I will follow your advice and dig deeper into potentiometer.
Thanks for your insight
