John Deere 5105 will not stay running,

Hey, I have a John Deere 5105 It will start and idle up for about 2 seconds than just shut down.It has been cold and I have been keeping the manifold heater plugged in.It will eventually run if the air temp get to about 34 degrees however since we are heading into the time of year, were it will be lower than that for long periods of time I need to figure this out,
any help would be great Thanks

How do you keep the manifold heater plugged in since it is controlled by pressing the key in, when it is in the run position? I have included a link to the operators manual.

There is a couple things I would check: 1) Is the manifold heater working, on my tractor (same engine), when you press the key in for the manifold heater the battery indicator dims on the instrument cluster. Is yours dimming, if not I would get a voltmeter and test to see that the manifold heater and manifold relay is working correctly, 2) It is possible the cold start advance is not working on the injection pump. On the thermostat housing there is a sensor that is connected to a two wire harness that goes to the injection pump; this is the "cold start advance" portion of the system so it starts easier when cold by advancing the timing. I would ohm test the sensor part # is RE503242. I do not know what the range is, but you could take it out ohm test, by putting it in a glass of water with a temp range of 40 to 122 Fahrenheit. 3) Not likely the problem you could put a volt meter on fuel solenoid and insure you are not loosing power.

Would not hurt to add JD winter fuel conditioner part # ty26488 or some other brand.

You could also consider purchasing a block heater. It is kit LV150155, if you elect go this route, post back and I can suggest a few things to make it easier to get in.
