John Deere 52 FEL cylinder

I have a JD 755 with a model 52 FEL. Ine of the Boom Cylinders is leaking. Can anyone tell me what the specs are for that cylinder so I may buy a replacement? The mechanic said the cylinder is too small to repack.

Find a new mechanic very quickly, that's a load of CRAP! He should have just told you "I don't feel like it and couldn't be bothered helping you! Go away"

If the cylinder is to small to put seals in, then how did they put them in when they made it?

Either find a new shop, preferably one that specializes in hydraulic-or fix it yourself with parts from JD.

Just had another thought on this...

Repair the cylinders in pairs, if one is leaking then the other has been carrying more of the load-so it's time may be shortlived anyway. It's easier to have the machine down once then twice.

Boom cylinder packing kit part number is PT13415 which subs to AM118391
list for 34.50, plenty to order in all warehouses

Thanks for the info. I think what he said exaclty is that the cylinder is so small, it would be hard to tell if was scored inside.

I don't know much about hydraulics, does this sound right?

There is no reason on this planet that I know of why that cylinder can't be rebuilt. Either buy a new cylinder or find another mechanic. It sounds like he has more excuses than skills. The bore being scored would have nothing to do with an external leak.

Go to your local feed store and ask the farmers who come in where they get their stuff repaired. When I got my JD 7 cylinders rebuilt the first two places wanted one arm and two legs. Then a farmer friend of mine told me about this hole in the wall one man out fit and he rebuilt each cylinder for under $ 70.00.
