Good morning. I have encountered a recurring fuel issue with my JD 5300. It started with the rpm's increasing on their own, which I understand is a sign of the engine starving for fuel. Shortly after that starts the engine will shut off. I had put a few hundred hours on the tractor before this started happening.
There is a check valve that had been installed in the main fuel line from the tank just before the fuel filter assemble, and I found an inline filter installed in the same fuel line under the tractor that I can not find as being part of the original fuel system. Obviously the previous owner had some fuel system issues.
My hayfield fix was to disconnect the fuel line at the check valve before the fuel filter and blow air back into the tank, re-connect the line after fuel flow was restored, prime the filter etc.
I drained the tank twice during this round of making hay, and strained all fuel going back in the tank. The tank looked clean inside upon visual inspection while empty.
Tractor has performed well until yesterday, while making some round bales. The rpm's surged a couple of times but it did not cut off. You can also notice a change in power output when this happens.
Thats the history, now for the newest discovery. Yesterday evening after making a few bales and having the rpm issue arise again, I noticed it looked a wet like there was a slight leak around the back of the injector pump in the vicinity of the Fuel solenoid and the oil pressure sender (I think that is what it is). The wet substance I noticed is actually like thin jelly, although it smells of diesel fuel.
As you can imagine, I would rather not continue to work on the fuel system in the middle of making hay so any help or advice would be appreciated.
