John Deere 5400
I've used a JD 5400 and a smaller Massey-Ferguson for several years now and have a question regarding the PTO shaft for the 5400. When I need to hook up to the PTO shaft of the Massey, I'm able to turn the shaft by hand quite easily to get the splines lined up. On the 5400, I have to use both hands to turn the shaft, and it barely turns at that. It becomes quite the chore to hook up a round baler or disc mower, trying to get it all lined up correctly. Is there some method to getting the shaft of the 5400 to turn more freely?

thanks

I've never owned a 5400 but I'll bet this(parts key #3) is what makes the shaft hard to turn. My hay baler and disk mower have a clutch that allows the implement pto shaft to rotate for connecting of shaft.
