I'm looking for a 80~100HP tractor to run a loader and for general implement work. I have been looking at the 5xxxE, 5xxxM, and stumbled onto this 6100D:

  • 9F/3R SYNCHRO TRANS
  • DRY CLUTCH, 2WD
  • 18.4X34 R1 TIRES
  • 10.00-16 FRONTS
  • OPEN STATION
  • 2 SCV'S
  • NO AMS
  • NO WEIGHTS
  • NO FENDERS
  • FLANGED AXLES
  • 2 FORWARD WORK LIGHTS
  • SECOND REAR WORK LIGHT

This tractor has been sitting on the lot for ~2 years and appears to be as cheap as you can get from the factory. With it's open station, the dealer doesn't really want to carry it over the winter so it has a very good price. I'm wondering about the transmission and dry clutch. Will they be a real detriment to loader use? The joy stick control of the other tractors is tempting but, I'm used to using the normal SVC's for loaders so I can live with that.

What's a fair price? This dealer is asking <$30K. Am I missing anything?

Thanks!
Sid

Sounds a bit on the high side... I'd keep looking if I'm signing the check! Find something already with a loader AND the rear SCV's.

Always need those rear SCV's for something or other!

I'm wondering if it really is the best deal. From pricing on the JD website, it looks like it's hitting a ~25% discount on the tractor. With the looming price increases, I doubt I'll find this tractor cheaper but who knows where the tractor market is going.

It looks like the 3rd rear service can be added after the fact for the same money but, it would be nice to have the joy stick control. For a tractor in this HP class though, it's hard to imagine when I would NEED a third rear service for an implement. Our big tractor had four but, all I remember using were 2 - 1 for the lift and 1 for fold up wings.

So far all the tractors I see on-line with FEL are a lot more expensive with MFWD and cabs. This sort of makes sense to me because in Winter feeding cattle, I know I sure would enjoy a cab and the added mudding and snow capability the MFWD adds. With 500~1000 hours and another ~$20K though, I'm wondering if the money would be better spent somewhere else.

After looking at the JD 5xxxE's in person, I think I will pass. In a 45hp tractor for a hobby farm, I think it would be a good choice. The 5xxxM is a much friendlier platform and it has more structure for heavy implements and a heavy rear end for bigger power. While the 6100D doesn't come with a loader, it's very tempting with it's more substantial structure and heavier drivetrain though, it won't mud as well as a lighter MFWD tractor.

yeah i looked at the E series whenever i started looking and ended up with a M series as well . for me i wouldnt own a tractor without MFWD with that much HP it just makes since . ive owned a 2520 and a 4520 and both are great tractors i just felt i needed a bigger gear drive tractor for the ground engagement work that i have . not to mention i keep messing up the loader on the 4520 trying to do to much with it .
