John Deere 6230

I am planning to purchase a new 6230 John Deere Cab Tractor. Any advice on this tractor will be appriciated. I was also wondering why on my 5425 the hyd gpm is 25 while on the 6230 which is a pretty good step up is only 21.9 gpm. Will this make any difference with my operation in my hay doings?

You might wan't to check to see if the 29 gpm option is available. Don't know if you need it though.

What other differences are there between the two models? Other than the cab, what are you moving to a 6230 for? Just curious. I could do a search of the Deere sites, but figure you have that information at hand.

I have done a lot of research on the 6230 and wanted to upgrade because of the need for 4wd and the cab. As I probably will not trade again I wanted to get enough tractor this time. Being a heavier tractor and able to pick up more as maybe a ton of feed or lager bales I felt I needed a heavier front end. Just did not understand why a 25gpm on the 5425 and a 21.1 on the 6230.

The 6230 is a lower spec tractor that has less frills. The 6230 Premium comes standard with 29 gpm. The non-Premium 6230 is standard with 21.1 gpm and has optional 29 gpm. There are other differences also between Premium and non-Premium. Power brakes vs. non power brakes, 4 valve per cylinder engine vs. 2 valve per cylinder, and alot of electronic differences. The non-premium 6230 should handle your haying operations ok. The brakes and hydraulics are the most critical differences. I suggest you test drive both versions to see what you like. hook up something to the hydraulics to see cycle time differences. What kind of hay equipment are you running?
