finally got the fuel lines bled but still not starting. I am getting plenty of fuel to the injectors and a lot of black smoke but no ignition. If anybody has any ideas i would sure appreciate the advice. Grass is getting kind of tall need help!

Air filter clean? If you're not sure, probably best to replace it.
Will the tractor start with another battery (starter might not be cranking fast enough)?

If neither of those helps, it's probably time for a compression test or cylinder leakdown test. That would give you a good idea if the valves are set correctly or if there is wear in one or more cylinders(650 has 2 cylinders, right?).

Another possibility is it's slightly out of timing

Pull it with a vehicle in a low gear to get the motor up to a median speed (rpm). That should get the compression up enough for it to light off. Be wary when it starts to run so you don't ram into the tow vehicle.

the air filter is clean and the starter is cranking fast enough. this is only the second time this has happened. after the first time i let it sit over night then tried the next morning and it started right away. Both times i had it running already that day and i just lowered the throttle to much and it died, then it wouldn't start.

WHAT! A JD650 not starting, unheard of. Sorry I have not a clue why. I have a soft spot in my heart for the JD650, had one for 20 years or so.

It seems odd to have alot of black smoke during cranking. Black smoke usually comes under heavy load, lack of air or excess fuel. Possibly you have a sticking rack in the fuel injection pump or maybe clogged exhaust? Try removing the muffler and see if it starts. Maybe a baffle in the muffler is loose and moves around causing excess back pressure.

I had a similar instance with an 855. A Deere mechanic advised me to remove the air intake hose and put a rag over the intake with a hose clamp. Spray the rag with a few shots of gasoline, then crank it and see if it starts. If it does, runs for several seconds and then stops, all of the mechanicals (compression, valves, etc. are good) and you have a fuel problem (supply, lines, filter, injector pump or injectors). My problem was a leak in the fuel filter gasket that let air in but didn't leak any fuel that you could see.

Oooh. Easy on the rag over the intake. I've seen 'em suck the rag right in on startup before. And I mean WAY in!:(

I had the same problem and a back-woods mechanic figured it out for me so I maybe off in my description, but there's an electromagnetic PTO switch that might be bad. I think its under the seat and it controls the PTO safety. If its bad the machine won't start as it thinks the PTO is engaged.

It shouldn't even crank if that was the case.
