I just purchased a John Deere 670! I am curious if anyone knows exactly how much this tractor weighs? Yes it has a FEL, but it's not a JD product and I assume it's about 400-500 lbs or so.

I'm shopping for a small trailer to tow this thing short distances., so I'm considering a short, single axle tilt bed, rather than an all out tandem axel car hauler. I am well aware of how much better and safer the tandem axels are, but this tractor isn't that big and I won't be taking it that far and I don't have a bottomless bank account.

Unless you can find a single axle trailer with a 5200# axle, I don't think you can do it. I have a single axle with a 3500# axle and the most I can carry on it is about 2700#. It might be best to borrow a trailer and go weigh your tractor and loader. JC

Your 670 led to the 770 and then the 790 which I have. My 790, without loader, is about 2000 pounds.

I can appreciate wanting to save money but do you really want to risk damage to your tractor, your trailer, your tow vehicle or someone elses property? How about renting a trailer? Weight aside, you'll want some trailer length to spare so you can adjust the load between the axle(s) and tongue.

I haul my tractor on a relatively low-end 18 foot car hauler. Works like a champ and I cannot imagine pulling it on a single axle.

BTW, Roy Jackson is our resident 670 expert. He had one for quite a while.

I have read many of his posts. He really seemed to like his 670. I am completely against renting a trailer. The time, money and hassle involved in renting one adds up to quite a bit of money towards a purchase of your own, and quite honestly I don't have the patience to deal with the less than brilliant that generally work the counters at the rental places around here. And, I miss having my own trailer. Those things come in handy for a lot more than hauling tractors and cars.

I guess I know at the end of the day I am going to have to look for a tandem axel, but I was just hoping to get away with something smaller if I could. I am still curious as to how much this thing weighs. Friends have offered their own estimates at anything from 1800 to 2400 lbs, sans the FEL.

The 790 goes about 2200lbs not including the FEL or ballast in the tires. The 670 wasn't that much lighter...just under 2000 lbs (per the Deere manual)
Add 600 lbs for a loader and another 250 lbs for filled tires. So, figure a trailer that can handle 3000 lbs, which gives you a margin of safety. I am making high estimates for the FEL and ballasted tires.

As far as a trailer...I don't have one. However, my 790 was driven 300 plus miles and delivered on one of those single axle tilt type trailers. I'd sure rather have a tandem axle type...but the dealer I bought the 790 from used tilt trailers for machines up to the 790 size (at least that). For short trips (20 miles or so), the tilt trailer would work. If I ever bought a trailer, it would be the tilt type since I doubt I'd ever trailer my 790 more then 20 miles or so. Downside is the length of the trailer...you can carry the tractor/loader but not a cutter or other 3PH implement.

You'll enjoy the 670! Great machine, and in many ways, I wish I'd kept mine (for one thing, it would have been paid off a few years ago!).
I do suggest you get the Deere service manual on CD-ROM.

Thanks Roy. I found my cake and got to eat it too, per se. I found a tilt bed, tandem axel trailer with an 11 foot deck. $700 (right price too). Tight for cars, but perfect for my 670. Someone already welded the 2x4 mounts on the outside of the deck, so I plan on building walls, a front and a back to use it for hauling material when my little JD isn't going places.

I appreciate everyone's input. The tandem axel was the right choice. This trailer has more payload compacity than I could ever tow.
