Hello new to the forum! I have a 20 acre tract that I cut timber off of approx 8 years ago. I am looking at a JD 710D backhoe for cleaning up either splitting up into lots or planting fruit trees on. Back when I had it cut the prices I got to have it cleaned up and replanted were outrageous. I decided to let it sit for almost 8 years and now think it's time to do something with said property.

My question is about a JD 710D backhoe. It has been used by a local guy to clean up his 20 acres as well. In the process he said he has replaced "about" every hydraulic hose on it and just put $1300 injector pump on machine. I know this is a big backhoe and do not plan on buying equipment to haul it around. Will the fact that it is only a 2wd be ok for what I'm doing or would a smaller hoe that is 4wd be a better option. The machine in question is priced at $12,500 with 3400 hours in it. I plan on using it for 1-2 years and probaly re-selling unless I see a need to keep it.

Wel I went ahead and purchased the backhoe. It will do what I need to get done on the 20 acres I have. The hydraulics seem a tad weak, but I will be doing pm's and maintenance on unit today. Hopefully not the pump.
