Price Check John Deere 850 Questions

I found a 850 4x4 that runs out nice. All original and never painted. About 2k hours and engine was recently overhauled and runs great. Cranks well in cold weather and hardly smokes unless hammered on. My question is what size disk harrow and bush hog can I use on this tractor? Also what is it's value? Thanks

I had an 850. It powered a 5' rotary cutter just fine- even up to 8' brush.

I sold my 850 with 1,700 hours at an auction for $6,900 with a loader. (I had bought it ten years earlier with a new rotary cutter for $6,000!). That tractor didn't owe me anything. It is heavily built, has great power and traction. It lacks some of the ergonomic niceties of the new tractors, but is a workhorse. Some say parts are getting difficult to find, but I never needed anything but filters.

I had a 1978 2WD John Deere 850 with 6' belly mower.
Sold it a few years ago in excellent condition with around 1800 hours for $4500.
It would run a 5' rotary cutter OK. (struggled a little in tall, really thick grass)

Ran the 6' belly mower with no problem.

My dad bought an 850 2wd with a 4spd and hi-lo range transmission in 1980 for about $4,400.00. We just did one of the brakes this summer and it's still on the original front tires. Other than that, all it has needed is oil and filters. Rugged machine (built by Yanmar), but very spartan in the features department. We use it every week.

I would suspect that it would fetch about $5,000.00 if we sold it...which we wouldn't do. It's a great little tractor that punches above its weight class.
