Backhoe John Deere 950 backhoe no loader

Can a 950 or 870 run a backhoe without the loader attached and just alot more front counterweights.. I know I should run a loader for counterweight but say I only have a backhoe and no loader (looking for one). is this something out of the question??

I'm not talking a ton of work here either or alot of driving just light backhoe work.

Don't think that's the way the hoe mounting attachment works.

The mounting hardware for the 8A backhoe on my JD970TLB required that the loader frame mid-mount (model 80) attachment hardware to be on the tractor. I believe it's the same for the model 440 loader as well.

The 4-point attachment for the backhoe has the front 2 attachment points where the loader mounts to the tractor frame.

Hi, I am new to this forum, but I have seen AKfish on another forum.
Question about his JD 970 with Model 80 loader and 8A backhoe.

The 4 point mount connects to the rear mount plate and the frame mount in the front that attaches to the rops mount and Model 80 loader lower connect pad. Is this correct?

You say that the subframe mounts to a 'rear mount plate' ? Do you have a picture of this mounting point and plate ? And have front mount attachment point to the ROPS mount ? Do you have a photo of this?

I am unsure if the 990 and the 970 use the same or similar mounts. For the 970 there was a kit available from JD that had all of the steel parts, hardware, hoses, and connectors for my tractor. JDparts should have a drawing and listing of the kit that works for your tractor and 8A backhoe.

There are three major steel pieces. The largest is the actual mount with is a large steel rectangular structure that bolts to your backhoe and then slides into the mounting brackets, front and rear on the tractor.

The rear brackets have hooks that the mount slides into. These brackets are attached to the side of the PTO housing with large bolts. The front brackets attach to empty bolt holes on the bottom of my ROPS bar on the forward side, and the front of this bracket attached to vacant holes on the bottom of my series 80 loader mount.

If I am able I will send pictures later today.

The loader bucket is intended to be part of the stabilization of the backhoe. I would not advise running a backhoe on a tractor without a loader.

hello i agree with mechanos the loader is needed for stability, i wouldnt run it without it.

I have gone to the JD dealer and got the parts list but it is the 970 or similar and the tractor support and tractor sub-frame are no longer avaliable. What they showed me was not what 'sal64' sent me as the 990 sub-frame it was the frame like 'Arrabil' modified. Great job Arrabil; really appreciate the step by step photos. Thanks.
The pictures that 'sal64' sent me are exactly what I require as I have the JD 8a backhoe frame already. If I could get some more detail of the tractor sub-frame to fab that would be awesome !
